Help us support students in need

2023 Campaign Update — $40,875 Raised

A huge thank you to our community and team members for your generous support. We have raised $40,875 for local schools throughout our 2023 Change 4 Kids fundraising campaign!

The Change for Kids program began responding to the need to assist low and moderate-income families. “We especially want to provide the funding to meet the physical and educational needs of those children,” explains The State Bank Vice President, Stacey Webb. “We want to meet the basic physical needs ranging from toothpaste and deodorant to clothing and shoes. We also want to provide the educational supplies needed to be a successful student, such as pencils, paper, markers, binders, backpacks, and other necessities. These materials provide the foundation for students to concentrate on their educational goals.”

Funds are collected through a variety of fundraising events organized by Bank staff.  These events include a number of internal fundraisers, bake sales, and raffles. Customers of the organization are also very generous and supportive of this local cause. The Bank also makes a large donation to this program.

Our 2023 campaign raised a total of $40,875 for the year. Since its inception in 2011, Change for Kids has donated over $348,443 to our local school districts:

“I wanted to let you know that just this past weekend we used some funds to pay for two nights’ shelter in a hotel for one of our homeless families. Carriage Town and Family Promise, our two main resources, were full, and this mom and her children had nowhere to go. Thank you for giving us the ability to help a family on an emergency basis.

So far this school year we have used funds to purchase emergency underwear for kindergarten and first graders in a Title I building, supplies for breaks for a struggling and ill student, and one night of shelter and dinner for another homeless family. Change for Kids is the only discretionary fund we have to help in these situations, and we truly appreciate State Bank’s generosity on behalf of our families in need.”

Sally Hohn, Support Services Coordinator, Grand Blanc Schools

“We are so grateful for The State Bank’s efforts and community outreach to help school districts support students and families in need. Over the years, we have been able to provide assistance with food, clothing, shelter, school supplies and personal care items that families may have otherwise gone without. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful and supportive community.”

Julie Williams, Superintendent of Lake Fenton Community Schools

“I am writing this with extreme appreciation on behalf of our Grand Blanc School Community.  Your generosity and support have made a difference across our district and the community at large. I would like to share with you a few stories that stand out in my mind from this past year:

  •  The State Bank paid for emergency shelter for a father and son over the weekend, until we could secure housing the following Monday. This family had been living in their car for about a week when a teacher was tipped off by the child’s erratic attendance. Change for Kids helps us address the devastation of Homelessness.
  • The State Bank paid for a diabetic testing kit for a first grader, of a single mom who was unable to provide one to stay at the school building so we could keep her child safe.
  • The State Bank paid for durable shopping bags during the pandemic months of March – May so we could help feed 1,249 families out of our District School Pantry. We had the food, we just didn’t have a safe way to transport it.  The bags made it possible, and took hunger off the table.
  • The State Bank paid for coats, boots, underwear, and socks for some of our most at-risk students.
  • The State Bank paid for glasses for students who had no insurance nor funds to do so, in order to see, to read and write.

Again, we appreciate The State Bank’s Change for Kids program, as it allows us to stand in the gap at a moment’s notice for our most vulnerable. Thank you!”

Christy Knight Ed.S, District Student Services, Grand Blanc Community Schools

“In the past, the funds have been used for various things such as being able to provide clothing for prom for students in need, items for the senior class due to the COVID changes with graduation, funding those that were not able to provide payment for a field trip, latchkey or food service balance.”

Sheila Mulcahy, New Lothrop Area Public Schools

“The State Bank’s Change for Kids donation to Fenton Area Public Schools is greatly appreciated. We use this donation to help students and families in need. These families and students may need a little help to ensure success in the academic and school setting. Especially during these trying times, we have  helped families impacted by the pandemic, so we are especially grateful to have our community partners like State Bank who step up and confirm that #WeAreFenton!”

—Heidie E. Ciesielski, Ed. S., Superintendent Fenton Area Public Schools
