FAQs

Am I protected if my card is lost or stolen?  Yes. You are not liable if you notify The State Bank or call 800.472.3272 within two business days of discovering that your card is lost or stolen. How does My Visa® Debit Card differ from a credit card?  With a credit card, you’re borrowing money with the intent to pay it back either in full or over time. With your Visa® Debit Card, you’re using funds directly from your checking account. The purchase amount is automatically deducted from your checking account just like with a check. Each transaction amount, with the merchant description and date, is detailed on your monthly statement. Do I have a daily spending limit?  Our personal bankers will give you more information about your daily limit when you apply for the card. How do I use the card to obtain cash? If you are traveling and need cash, you can visit any financial institution that offers Visa® and obtain a cash advance by presenting your Visa® Debit Card at the teller window. You can also use the card to get cash at any ATM displaying the ACCEL® logo, or ask for cash back when you use your card to make a purchase. Remember, the availability of the cash is limited by the balance in your checking account. How do I use the card internationally? The State Bank takes your account security very seriously and is fighting against debit card fraud. If you are planning a trip out of the United States, please notify Customer Service at 810.629.2263 of your travel dates, and the countries you will be visiting. This will allow us to provide you access to your card while you are abroad. There is a 3.0% fee on all ATM and point of sale transactions initiated outside of the United States, please contact us with any questions. Are there any countries where transactions are blocked? The State Bank is committed to do whatever we can to protect your account from fraudulent transactions, and that includes blocking transactions that originate outside of the United States. Transactions originating in foreign countries will be blocked from processing.  To avoid any disruption of access to your funds with your debit card while traveling, simply notify the bank before you leave. We’ll add a travel alert to your account for the time frame you will be out of town and the countries you plan to visit.  Contact your local banker or call us at 810-629-2263.
